2022 Escape SE Hybrid vs. 2021

Fuel-Efficient and Well-Equipped SUV

The Ford Escape SE Hybrid has been a popular option for drivers who want a roomy, peppy, and well-equipped SUV. The 2022 and 2021 models provide seating for five, and both model years are available with a mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid electric powertrain.

At Wood Motor Ford Carthage near Carytown, we welcome you to visit our showroom to learn how a hybrid vehicle can fit into your lifestyle and decrease your fuel expenses.

What’s Under the Hood

In 2021, Ford added a plug-in hybrid model to the lineup. Both hybrid versions have a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor. Ford pairs the engines with a continuously variable transmission. The Escape Hybrid delivers 200 horsepower, while the Escape SE Plug-In Hybrid delivers 221 horsepower. Both models come with front-wheel drive and available all-wheel drive.

The Escape Plug-in Hybrid model has an 11.2-kWh battery to provide up to an EPA-estimated 37 miles of all-electric driving. Charging the EV takes about 3.5 hours with a Level 2 charger. Using a Level 1 charger with a 110-volt outlet takes about 11 hours.

The EPA-estimated fuel economy on the Escape Hybrid is 44/37 MPG. The Escape PHEV has an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 105 MPGe or a combined 40 MPG when in hybrid mode after the battery runs down.

Comparing the 2022 and 2021 Ford Escape Hybrid Models

The 2022 Ford Escape SE Hybrid has 30.7 cubic feet of cargo space, while the 2021 model has 34.4 cubic feet. With the rear seats lowered, the cargo space increases to 60.8 cubic feet in both models. For the 2022 model year, Ford dropped the SE Sport trim.

Ford outfitted the 2022 and 2021 models with the Ford Co-Pilot360 suite of safety features on the SE trims and all upgraded trims. They include Forward Collision Warning, Forward Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, Automatic High Beams, and a Rearview Camera.

Drivers who choose the 2022 Ford Escape SE Hybrid 4DR All-Wheel Drive model also get cloth upholstery, a push-button start, and an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hotspot, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, and six speakers.

The 2021 models have additional safety features like Curve Control, Post-Collision Braking, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and the SOS Post-Crash Alert System.

The mid-level trim, the SEL, adds synthetic leather upholstery with heated front seats. It also has a heated steering wheel, 18-inch wheels, fog lights, and rear parking sensors. The top trim, the Titanium, includes navigation, Adaptive Cruise Control, Road Sign Recognition, and ambient lighting.
